Swiss hot air balloon festival

Swiss-hot-air-balloon-festival

The first balloon, developed by two brothers, flew into the sky more than 200 years ago. Shortly afterwards, this phenomenon caught the Europeans’ interest. The passion and love towards the balloons grew rapidly until it reached the 43rd festival on January 22-30, 2022, at Château-d’Oex, Switzerland. This location wasn’t selected by chance, as in 1999 for the first time Breitling Orbiter from Château-d’Oex was piloted by the Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones set of the tour of the world in a hot air balloon.

The Night Glow event also took place on 28 January 2022. From different countries, more than 70 balloons climbed into the sky. This festival was not just about the balloons though; every year during this festival there are other magical events. During the Balloon Glow event the lights of the balloons competently illuminate the sky. In 1979, on Christmas Eve, pilots inflated balloons as a thank you to the people for visiting and enjoying the surrounding beauty. The Special Shape Rodeo also began back in 1989. Now it’s the most popular event during this festival. It’s even televised, but nothing is as good as being there in person!

AlpTransfer's private transfer to Château-d’Oex either from Zurich, Geneva, Bern, or any other Swiss city will transport you to the festival in comfort to enjoy the spectacular event and surrounding areas. Please contact our helpful team for more information.
