Cattle show Heiden/Grub

Appenzell Ausserrhoden comes alive with the autumn cattle shows, where farmers return from the alps with their cows to compete for the coveted prize of the most beautiful and best-performing cow. The highlight of the event is the prelude, where the farmers and their cows parade through the decorated wooden triumphal arch. Each cow is tied to slats and placed in their respective category for judging. A panel of experienced farmers judge the cows based on their beauty and performance, and the most outstanding animals are decorated with a paper flower wreath. The evening culminates in a local restaurant with a show review and prize-giving ceremony, followed by a lively party with singing, dancing, and a show of the goats. It's a perfect opportunity to experience the traditions of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, while enjoying the company of locals and visitors alike.
